Conference News 13 February

Sunset Times: Today at 8:13 pm
Friday 19February at 8:06 pm

Today's offering: Elizabeth church extensions
Offering next week: Education (tax deductible)

Look at the DVD about Elizabeth
See how one of our fastest growing churches desperately needs our help. Give generously for the Elizabeth church extensions this week.

Session Preparation and Leadership Changes
As each of you is aware our new conference election procedures require incumbent officers to declare our intention (or non-intention) to stand for re-election so local Conference membership can provide feedback to the chairperson of the nominating committee. This does away with the need for the more traditional ‘referral back' process that can occur at the time of the constituency meeting (previously known as conference session).

With this background in mind Conference administration need to inform you that the President is not planning on standing for re-election at our session in September 2010. As at the end of this year the President will have spent 9 years in this position and personally believes a change is in order. The Conference Secretary Treasurer will be standing for re-election.

In sharing this decision and possible future ministry direction, the Conference President said "My preference would be to remain in South Australia and continue to work at local church level in the preparation and follow up of our major 2011 evangelistic campaign", however he pointed out that this matter will need to be resolved later in the year.

If you wish to provide feedback on the Secretary-Treasurer's willingness to stand, you may direct (written) comments to the chairperson of the standing nominating committee, Pr Chester Stanley President Australian Union Conference, PO Box 4368, Ringwood, Vic 3134 or email chesterstanley@adventist.org.au

Important Change to venue:
Practical Discipleship 101 Intensive

The practical discipleship training 101 intensive scheduled for Friday Feb 26 - Sunday Feb 28 will NOT now occur at the Prescott College Chapel but at the City Church. This change has been occurred due to the numbers expected over the weekend.

This change in venue has necessitated some other changes to the programme.

We will still commence on Friday evening at 7.30pm. On this occasion you will hear Johnny Wong share the story of the growth and development of the Gateway Churches in Melbourne. This is a really amazing story of a lay pastor who has raised up three churches (in Melbourne) and seen more than 90 baptisms in the past 5 years.

On Sabbath morning there will be two sessions both presented by Pr Gary Webster. The first will commence at 9.30am and will replace the usual Sabbath School programme and the second will commence at 11.00 and will be run in much the same manner as the usual worship service. He will consider the transition from ‘membership' to ‘discipleship'.

THERE WILL BE NO LUNCH PROVIDED! We would ask you to bring your own lunch to eat at the City church. Of course the good side of NO LUNCH PROVIDED is NO FEES CHARGED!!!

On Sabbath afternoon we will recommence at 2.00pm and will conclude at 5.00pm with Johnny Wong sharing in a very practical way on just one question. How can my church create an outward focused discipleship plan? We will finish at 5.00pm as there are a number of groups wanting to practice for Big Camp which occurs the following weekend.

On Sunday morning starting at 9am Pr Gary Webster will continue with an intensive training series entitled "Making and maintaining friendships, while sharing passionately without embarrassment". We will conclude at 12md.
